Let me start by saying that the Hamptons is such a fabulous summer vibe. It’s a great mix of cozy, beachy, and party. My friends and I recently did a long weekend there to celebrate our friend’s 30th. It was my first time, so I had to do a decent amount of research (aka asking my friends a million questions) about what to wear in the Hamptons. Happy to report all of my outfits worked very well for our weekend.
When packing for the Hamptons, you’ll want to keep a few things in mind. The weather can be hit or miss. We had one very sunny, hot day, one partly cloudy day, and one rainy. You’ll want to keep an eye on the weather and be prepared. It also gets decently chilly in the evenings in the Hamptons. You’ll also want to think about what you’ll be doing on the trip. Your evenings could be spent building a bonfire on the beach, or you could be hitting up any of the chic restaurants and bars in the area.
Below is a general guide for what to wear in the Hamptons for a summer weekend. Keep scrolling, and you’ll have your perfect wardrobe in minutes.

Linen
It is summer after all. Linen is by far the best summer fabric and also looks very chic. I wore a pair of linen trousers on the train and packed linen shorts. The shorts were my most worn item, as they paired well with a cozy sweater and as a swimsuit coverup.
Swimsuits
Of course, you’ll need swimsuits for hanging by the pool or at the beach. The Hamptons is a very classy place, so I recommend sticking with slightly more modest suits. Save your sexy swimsuits for Mykonos and Ibiza. I wore my favorite one-piece that I’ve had for years and a bikini from Abercrombie.
High-waist jeans and a cute top
Something to definitely keep in mind about the Hamptons is the chilly nights. A pair of high-waisted jeans is a great way to stay a little warmer. And you’ll notice all the girls are wearing them. Wear a crop top that shows a little skin to balance it out (and so you’re not sweating too much if you go out dancing!).
Night out dress
Depending on where you’re going, the Hamptons can be very casual or pretty dressy. We went out to a nice dinner and drinks at Gurney’s our second night, which definitely called for a dress. This Zara find was so good and got so many compliments. But anything with a fun, party vibe will do. Just keep it on the classier side – this isn’t Vegas.
Sweaters or sweatshirts
Mornings in the Hamptons are absolutely lovely. Sitting on the beach with a coffee is one of my favorite things in life. Packing a sweater or sweatshirt is perfect for those moments. I brought along a linen sweater and ended up purchasing a Montauk sweatshirt while there.
Maxi dress
One of the best things that makes this list of what to wear in the Hamptons is a statement midi or maxi dress. It absolutely fits the vibe and is super comfy. I wore a Sandro dress that I purchased last year and am intent on getting a million wears out of it. But something like this or this would also be perfect.
