Once upon a time, I was the kind of girl who would wear a tiny sparkly dress and heels for New Year’s. Even when it was below 30 degrees, and I knew I’d freeze my butt off. After one particular New Year’s Eve in Denver where I had to traipse through the snow in a mini dress and Louboutins, I finally decided comfort was totally worth it.
But being comfortable on New Year’s Eve doesn’t mean that you can’t still be cute and festive. There are so many good options for what to wear for New Year’s when it’s cold – from sequins to velvet to glitter. You just have to make sure that all your pieces work together for maximum warmth, as well.
One of my favorite styles to wear for New Year’s when it’s cold is a sequined skirt. Not only does this style allow for maximum sequin impact, but one in a midi length means you can easily layer thick tights underneath. Paired with a simple sweater and cute boots, you’ll be ready to ring in the new year in style (and warmth!).
Midi skirts aren’t the only style that works really well for staying festive and warm as you party the last minutes of the year away. Try a pair of sequin flares (you can still layer tights underneath if you need). Or if you don’t want to go with shimmer on the bottom, throw on a sparkly blazer. There are also more subtle options like velvet, or just stick with some sparkly eye makeup.
Do you usually forgo comfort when it comes to dressing your sparkly best for New Year’s Eve? Or are you alllll about looking comfortable AND festive like me?
I even took these rules into account when planning my Christmas outfit in this post. You won’t find me shivering this year!

Thanks, girl! If I didn’t already have this sequin skirt, I’d 100% be picking up that one for this year. I just don’t think I can justify owning two sequin midi skirts… Xx, Kelsey

Spending New Years in Colorado and packing when I came across this post; couldn’t be better timing!

So happy to help! It was definitely living in Colorado that taught me it isn’t worth it to try and wear a tiny dress for NYE haha. Xx, Kelsey
