Anyone who has lived in NYC knows how necessary it is to get away from time to time. We’re lucky that there are many places within driving distance that make for a quick respite from the busy city. In particular, there are plenty of beautiful towns within a few hours that boast beautiful woods, streams, and lakes. All things that make the perfect city escape. Recently Jon and I spent a weekend in Narrowsburg, NY, which turned out to be the ideal spot to escape the city.
Our weekend in Narrowsburg, NY was quiet above all else. And that’s exactly what we were looking for. It was so nice to spend the weekend walking through the woods, dipping in a hot tub, and cuddling up with a book. Below are all the details of our stay!

HOW WE GOT THERE
Narrowsburg is just over 2 hours from NYC, which makes it perfect for a weekend getaway. It’s definitely someplace that requires a car to get to. You’ll want one when you get there, too. That way you can pop into the little town. Be aware it may snow in winter, so you’ll want to check the weather and ensure your car is equipped.
WHERE WE STAYED
This epic airbnb was what put a weekend in Narrowsburg, NY on the map for us. We wanted someplace we’d be happy spending a weekend in, even if we never left. This cabin had all the perfect things – a wood-burning stove, hot tub, and plenty of cozy places to curl up. It backs right up to the river and is secluded. We really enjoyed how quiet it was even with the river bubbling all the time. I would absolutely stay here again. It made the perfect cozy weekend but would also be amazing in the summer when you can swim in the river.
WHAT WE DID
We really weren’t looking to DO a ton on our weekend away. It consisted of building lots of fires, walking in the woods with Jolene, and reading. That being said, we did find a couple of fun things to do.
Hot tubbing – The Airbnb had this amazing outdoor hot tub. It was wood-burning, which required quite a bit of work. We learned that it’s probably best to start the fire the night before you want to use it, so it’s hot in the morning. It took about 5 hours of stoking the fire to get the temperature up. Totally worth it to relax in the warm water while it snowed.
Visiting the town – A weekend in Narrowsburg, NY is not complete without a visit to the town. It’s really only a block or so, but there’s a great pizza place called the Launderette and some really cute shops. I wanted to stop by the Nest and Maison Bourgone, but both were closed. Something to keep in mind if visiting in the winter! We did swing by Proper to grab some snacks and delicious fresh-made bread. Narrowsburg Fine Wine & Spirit next door had a great selection of reds for our cozy weekend.
Hiking – It snowed while we were visiting, so we didn’t do any major hiking. We did, however, do about 30 minutes of the Tusten Mountain Trail with Jolene. It was so peaceful to walk along the river and through the woods. It reminded me that I need to do more hiking after spending nearly 5 years living somewhere very flat.
