It’s always funny to watch how trends come back around. I specifically remember putting on a pair of fringed boots in high school. I came downstairs and my mom groaned about how she had the exact same pair in the 70s. Something I didn’t appreciate until the 90s started trending in the past few years.
Now, trends from the 70s are back again for 2021. Tinted sunglasses and wide-leg pants are popping up all over Instagram lately. I recently read this article on the meaning behind the resurgence of the 60s and 70s. Fashion in the 60s and 70s came out of a time rife with hardship. The Vietnam War, anti-war protests, and civil rights movements characterized the era. From those hard times rose effortless and free-spirited fashion. As we slowly emerge from hard times of our own, it makes sense that trends from the 70s are back.
Before you jump into the best trends from the 70s for 2021, remember to look at what you already have in your closet. You might be surprised what works within this trend with a few updates. And as you shop for the latest 70s trends, don’t spend too much money on super trendy pieces and look for ones you’ll be able to wear again and again. Lastly, avoid looking too costumey by pairing only one or two trends at a time.

Wide-leg Pants
Nothing says 70s quite like wide-leg pants. The good news is that they can also be very flattering. Pair them with heeled boots or sandals for a leg lengthening look.

Tinted Sunglasses
This trend from the 70s is HOT on Instagram right now. As our days get warmer and sunnier, tinted sunnies bring a happy and fun vibe to any outfit. To avoid looking too over-the-top, avoid pairing your tinted sunnies with too many other 70s trends.

Crochet
Another trend from the 70s that is perfect for warmer weather. Crochet is popping up all over retailer websites. I particularly love a crochet top paired with the above wide-leg jeans. It would also be super cute with denim cutoffs or over a swimsuit.

Clogs and Chunky Sandals
The chunky wood soles of 70s clogs are back in style. This is a trend that it pays to tread lightly with – pairing your clogs with wide leg jeans and a crochet top will take you into costume territory. Instead, pair them with a flirty spring dress or a tank and jean shorts.

Groovy Patterns
The easiest way to jump on the 70s trend is with a fun print. 70s-inspired prints are popping up on dresses, tops and skirts all over the place.
