Fall is by far one of my favorite times of the year. The weather starts to turn crisp, and there are so many opportunities for cute outfits. You can pull out your blazers, skirts, and sweaters without worrying about a) breaking a sweat and b) having to hide it all under a heavy coat. The season tends to pass quickly in Amsterdam, which means we’ll already be in our coats in a week or two. But for now, while the weather is still the perfect temperature, I wanted to share some of my favorite transitional fall outfit ideas.
The great thing about transitional outfits is the opportunity to layer and mix and match. Fall is the time of year to pair mini skirts with knee-high boots, or if you live in a warmer climate, pair a blazer with some shorts. Below I’m sharing some of my favorite transitional fall outfit ideas from this year and years past. Which would you wear?

DRESSES & BOOTS
This is probably one of my favorite transitional fall outfit ideas. There’s just something about dresses and boots that screams fall to me. Luckily, this combination can be worn in so many ways. Pair a mini dress with knee-high boots or a midi dress with ankle boots. Or switch it up. The possibilities are endless.
BLAZERS, JEANS, & BOOTS
Another great transitional item for fall is a blazer. I personally love pulling out the plaid or checks this time of year, but a solid color works too. Throw it on with jeans and a cute top, and you’re ready to go. This outfit is not only easy but gives you the option to strip off the blazer if it gets too warm. Alternatively, if you’re worried about being cold, throw a thicker sweater underneath.
TURTLENECK & A SUMMER DRESS
I’m all about learning to layer, and this transitional fall outfit idea involves my favorite layering piece – a tissue-thin turtleneck. Purchasing a thin turtleneck allows you to add warmth without adding bulk. I pair mine under dresses that I want to keep wearing when the weather turns.
THIN TIGHTS UNDER A DRESS
One style tip I picked up from Dutch girls was the power of thin black tights. The slightly see-through nature doesn’t look as heavy as an opaque pair but still keeps you warm enough when wearing skirts.
CHUNKY SWEATER WITH A SKIRT
It’s not quite cold enough to be layering chunky sweaters underneath coats, but it is the perfect time to wear them on their own. Fall is the perfect time to let your sweaters shine and wear them as your top layer. If you’re worried about being cold, throw a long sleeve top underneath.
