Probably the one question I get asked most is where to eat and drink in Amsterdam, so it’s about time that I write a post on the subject. Having lived in Amsterdam for a year now, I feel like I’ve gotten a pretty good sense of the food here. I will say that I haven’t found Amsterdam to be a foodie’s paradise, but there are lots of good little spots that are worth checking out.
Jon and I tend not to do a lot of fancy meals, so you won’t find many Michelin stars on this list. What you will find are a range of affordable and tasty options throughout the city.
Where have you eaten in Amsterdam? I’m always looking for new spots to try!
And if you’re looking for more things to do in Amsterdam, check out this post.

FOR BRUNCH
Bakers & Roasters – This is our favorite brunch spot. They do the best pancakes I’ve ever had and amazing eggs. Be warned there is always a long wait on the weekend. Get there before 10am, and you should be able to get a table in 30 – 45 mins
Little Collins – An Aussie restaurant that does a great brunch. I’m particular to the chickpea pancakes. And their halloumi is to die for!
Omelegg – A delicious option for egg lovers. They’ve got all sorts of omlettes – including ones with peanut butter and jelly
Staring at Jacob – A New York brunch feel with some bomb chicken and waffles
Dignita – I’m a huge fan of their avocado toast. The Hoftuin location has a gorgeous outdoor space
Biscuit Baby – Southern homestyle breakfast. The fried chicken biscuit or egg and cheese biscuit are the way to go
FOR LUNCH
Hummus Bistro D&A – Totally amazing hummus dishes and tons to share. I used to go here for lunch while I was working in the area
Sla – If you’re looking for healthy options, this quick lunch spot is for you. Lots of vegan and veggie options, plus delicious soups
Morgan & Mees – This hotel has a gorgeous terrace, fantastic wine list, and delicious menu. I always love meeting a girlfriend here for lunch or a drink
Cafe George – This french bistro is a favorite among Amsterdam influencers. I’m partial to the tomato soup and a side of fries.
Thrill Grill – An easy spot in De Pijp with great burgers and lots of veggie burger options
Lotti’s – This restaurant inside the Hoxton has something for everyone. I’m a huge fan of their pumpkin soup.
Roasrio – Probably the best Mexican you’ll find in Amsterdam. It’s a tiny place so definitely make a reservation
FOR DINNER
Cannibale Royale – Some of the best, affordable steaks around. And if you’re into ribs, the BBQ sauce is some of the best I’ve ever had. And I’m from Texas.
Foodhallen – Great atmosphere and everyone can make their own choice at Amsterdam’s indoor foodhall. Super crowded on Friday and Saturday nights, so be prepared to stand and eat. But grab a big G&T and all will be fine.
Venus & Adonis – A really great date spot right in the heart of the canals
Linguini – Such a cozy Italian restaurant with some amazing pasta
Cecconi’s – The Italian restaurant under Soho House in Amsterdam. No membership required, and they do great wine (try the Montepulciano) and delicious salmon.
Restaurant Max – In Amsterdam, you have to try rijsttafel for a group dinner. It’s an Indonesian meal of shared plates and so delicious
Café Caron – A delicious bib gourmand French restaurant. Cute and cozy for a date night.
Salmuera – Really good for the meat lovers, but I go for the amazing sangria and cheese empanadas. This is a great spot for groups to share plates.
Pendergast – The closest you’ll get to true Southern BBQ in the Netherlands
The Duchess – If you’re looking for a fancy spot, this is it. The interior of this Michelin star restaurant is stunning, especially during the holidays!
FOR PIZZA
nNea – True Napoli pizza. Best when ordered to eat fresh at the restaurant
La Perla – Another fantastic option. Cute terrace seating or grab a pie and enjoy it canalside
Fiko Pizza Bar – This is our favorite for delivery, but they also have a very cute location in De Pijp if you want to eat in
FOR A SNACK OR COFFEE
Pluk – Amsterdam’s most instagrammable cafe. Go to take pictures of their amazing cakes and cupcakes before eating one with your latte
Juice Brothers – Lots of delicious vegan smoothies, snacks and juices for on the go
Ree7 – Great for coffee, but their current claim to fame are their insane milkshakes that have been popping up all over the gram
Winkel 43 – You can’t miss their classic Dutch apple pie!
Stroopwaffles – You can find them at vendors and stands throughout the city, but the best ones are at the stand closest to MoCo in Museumplein

FOR A DRINK
Waterkant – A great outdoor bar right on the water. Very hipster
Marie Amsterdam – This little-known French restaurant is situated at canal level at Hotel de L’Europe. My favorite spot for a glass of wine on a sunny day.
Pulitzer – Two options that I love here: In the summer, grab a glass of rosé and sit in the courtyard. In the winter, enjoy a mixed drink inside cozy Pulitzer’s Bar.
De Tulp – A fun bar in De Pijp with a younger crowd, good music and a cool tropical interior
Het Paardje – Another fun bar in De Pijp for a night out. It’s rather small inside, so expect it to be crowded
Chin Chin Club – Cute interior and great music for dancing. Recommend getting there early and grabbing a bit to eat before the restaurant turns into a bar. Otherwise, there’s usually a line
Louis Bar – The cosiest brown bar with a decent selection of wine
Vesper – My favorite for craft cocktails
Duke of Tokyo – If you’re looking for a wild night and some karaoke, this is your spot. There are also lots of other bars in the area
Cafe Luxembourg – Great classic Dutch bar for a glass of wine and people watching from the cafe seating. Also the place I usually end up at after a day of shopping on Kalverstraat
