I love the time of year when the weather starts to cook and the leaves fall. But I have to admit my skin doesn’t always love it so much. Spending time outdoors being in the cooler air and then moving indoors where the heat is running can wreak havoc on your skin.
In the summer, I always switch to lighter products and ones that will help unclog my pores of oil and sweat. But once fall comes around, it’s time to add in more moisture and be a little gentler.
Keep reading for all my favorite summer to fall skincare tips and products. And while you’re here, feel free to check out this post in preparation for winter skincare (it’s just around the corner!).

Moisturize! Moisturize! Moisturize!
The most important of my summer to fall skincare tips is to add more moisture back into your products. There are so many conditions like cold wind and indoor heating that’ll strip your skin of moisture in the fall and winter. Make sure you’re compensating for that. I’ve personally made the switch from my super affordable Weleda Skin Food Light (EU) to the regular Weleda Skin Food formula (EU) for day. And I always use Bloomeffects Royal Tulip Nectar at night.
Another great way to get extra moisture is to remember a good serum. I love Caudalie’s VinoSource S.O.S serum (EU) or The Ordinary’s hyaluronic acid serum (EU) for added moisture without making me oily.
Switch up your cleanser
I love a good exfoliating or acne-targeting cleanser. But summer to fall skincare requires something a little gentler. My favorite thing to do this time of year is to switch to a natural cleanser that won’t leave my face dry and stingy after washing. I use Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Cleansing Oil (EU) to remove makeup and the. Follow up with Grown Alchemist Gel Cleanser (EU) to double cleanse.
Cut back on acids and drying treatments
I’m alllll about the acids and treatments that are going to combat my acne. But when skin starts to get drier in the fall, it’s best to start cutting back on these harsh treatments. They’re only going to exacerbate any dryness and may lead to more breakouts. Instead, try and skin-calming mask, like Farmacy Honey Potion (EU).
Remember your sunscreen
Even though summer is over doesn’t mean you can drop the sunscreen. In fact, you should be wearing it every day no matter the time of year (or cloud cover!). My favorite is this Drunk Elephant SPF 30 formula (EU).
Drink more water
I know, I know. Everyone is always preaching about drinking more water. But it really does have so many benefits. Layering on thick moisturizer is only going to go so far if you’re not drinking enough water, especially if you’re spending time outside. Feel free to add fresh fruit or find a version with bubbles, whatever helps you drink more!
Swap your lip products
Nothing is worse than a set of severely chapped lips. And we’ve all been there. A quick swipe of chapstick isn’t going to cut it this time of year. Instead, start layering on Aquaphor (EU). In fact, I can’t go to sleep without slathering it on my lips. Worth it to wake up with a soft, moisturized pout.
