Deep down, I’m dreaming of crisp, fall weather. But the reality is that we are mid heatwave here in Amsterdam. I know the US isn’t quite ready to transition to fall weather either. Since it’s still warm outside, I wanted to share my top five summer beauty picks.
With all of the heat and humidity that August brings, it’s important to keep skincare and makeup light. Plus, now that we’re all wearing masks (even here in Amsterdam!) maskne is a real thing. So the summer beauty picks I’m listing below are all lightweight and perfect for the season.

- Drunk Elephant SPF (EU link)- Here in Europe it’s really hard to find a moisturizer with SPF. So I recently found this SPF to layer over my moisturizer because sunscreen is ESSENTIAL if you’re leaving the house. My favorite thing is that this sunscreen is also skincare, so it’s going to help fight damage at the same time. Plus it leaves no white cast and has a nice texture under makeup.
- Caudalie Serum (EU link) – I’ve been obsessed with this serum since I picked it up in a French pharmacy last summer. It’s lightweight, which is ideal for summer. It’s also packed with hyaluronic acid which is super hydrating and soothing.
- IT Cosmetics CC Cream (EU link) – This oil-free cc cream is really a year-round product for me. I’ve really been loving it this summer because it’s super buildable. On hot days, I use just a tiny bit on top of my skincare. It gives the right amount of sheer coverage. Come fall and winter, I can use more product for more coverage. This one also doesn’t make me breakout under my mask!
- Bloomeffects Tulip Tint – I’m partial to these skincare products because I worked on the formulas at my last job. This tint has been a lifesaver during the summer months. It provides just the right amount of sun-kissed color to my lips and cheeks. Plus, it’s skincare first, so I know it’s helping my skin at the same time.
- Briogeo Dry Shampoo (EU link) – I’ve struggled in the past with aerosol dry shampoos (read about it in this post). They leave my scalp with bumps and itchy patches, so I was excited to try a powder formula. This dry shampoo is clean and uses charcoal and biotin to not only soak up oil but treat and balance the scalp. The application can be a little messy (it’s a squeeze bottle), but personally I like it better than the itchiness I get from aerosols. Bonus! Briogeo is a black-owned brand!
