It’s officially starting to feel like summer, which means it’s time to put together your summer 2020 wardrobe essentials. One of my favorite things about summer dressing is how easy it is to mix and match pieces all season long. I’m all about getting the most out of your wardrobe and shopping smarter.
So today, I’m bringing you the summer 2020 wardrobe essentials that will carry you through the season in style. Think white dresses, denim jackets, and easy sandals. The best thing about this capsule wardrobe is how easy it is to add a few trendy pieces to keep things feeling relevant.
Keep reading for the fourteen items that you need in your summer 2020 wardrobe. Which piece are you unable to live without during the summer months? Tell me in the comments!
Xx, Kelsey
- Easy white dress – Nothing screams summer more than a white dress. This season, the tiered dress is majorly on trend, so I recommend picking one of these up. It’s a great base layer that allows for tons of trendy accessorizing.
- Denim jacket – Perfect for those chilly nights (which we get a lot of here in Amsterdam!). I love wearing mine around my waist just in case I get chilly. Plus it adds a layer of interest to your look.
- White jeans – Another summer wardrobe essential. Switch your skinny pair out for a straight leg pair with an ankle crop. Looks great with flat sandals, sneakers or wedges.
- Denim shorts – I’m a huge fan of the mom short trend for 2020. In fact I wrote about why these are the most flattering denim shorts in this post. Promise these will get a lot of use during the summer.
- Knit tank – Personally, I love one in a shade of tan that can easily be paired with any of the items on this list. It’s easy and versatile.
- White midi skirt – Can you tell white is my favorite summer color? I have had a white midi skirt for a few years, and it’s hands down my most worn summer item. Look for one with a slightly looser fit, so you’ll always be comfy. Pairs great with the knit tank and denim jacket or over a swimsuit as a coverup.
- Short sleeve tee – Honestly I recommend having a few of these. If you’re a real minimalist, you should at least have one black and one white. But this is also a great place to throw in a little color.
- Black heel sandals – Block heels are essential for summer nights out. The thicker heel will keep you from tripping on the boardwalk after your second margarita. The thong style is super trendy for summer 2020.
- White sneakers – One thing I’ve learned from Europeans is the importance of a summer white sneaker. It goes well with anything on this list. This Converse pair is going to be the hottest style this summer.
- Maxi dress – No summer wardrobe is complete without a maxi dress. I personally always make sure to have a white one on hand. But if you’re more into color, this is the perfect place to punch up your summer 2020 wardrobe essentials with something that fits your personality. This dress comes in butter yellow and bright pink as well.
- Straw hat – Perfect for the beach or a day at the park. Not only is a flat brimmed straw hat insanely chic, it’s also great for protecting your face from the sun (essential for keeping those wrinkles at bay).
- Swimsuit – Naturally you have to have a swimsuit in your summer wardrobe. Instead of buying several cheap ones this summer, consider investing in one really classic one piece that will last forever.
- Flat sandals – Perfect for walking to the beach or running out to the store. A list of summer 2020 wardrobe essentials has to include flat sandals. Find a pair that fits your personal style and is comfortable. They won’t do you any good if you never wear them because of blisters. Stick to neutral colors like tan or brown that will go with everything in your capsule wardrobe.
- Straw bag – A straw bag will round out any look and screams SUMMER!
