When I began learning how to dress like a European, there was one major thing I noticed about Dutch style – they pair white sneakers with everything. Since then I’ve been incorporating white sneakers into more of my outfits. Thanks to Jon and his work with Nike, I’ve really started to understand much more about what sneakers are trending. And to think, before moving to Amsterdam, I’d wouldn’t be caught dead in sneakers unless I was working out.
This year, the trending sneakers that have started to pop up both in street style and on Instagram are the off-white Converse Chuck 70s. Converse high tops have been around for ages, but this particular pair is very on trend for this summer. It was a fairly big leap for me to buy a pair, as I normally wouldn’t have considered them.
Since I’m new to them, I had to figure out how to go about styling Converse high tops for summer. I asked around on Instagram, and the good news is that they go with just about everything – perfect for the Dutch way of dressing.
For this outfit, I decided on styling Converse high tops with a classic slip skirt. I’ve really come to love the juxtaposition of white sneakers with skirts and dresses in the summer. It adds just a little bit of edge to your look. Plus it’s super easy to walk on cobblestone streets or bike around Amsterdam.
To keep things simple, I paired the look with a basic white tee. I kept a denim jacket around my waist because it always gets chilly in the evenings here. This time of year, I rarely leave the house without it.
The key to styling Converse high tops for summer is to throw them on with literally everything in your closet. As I did here, I highly recommend pairing them with skirts and dresses, but they also look great with denim shorts.
Would you wear this look? Let me know in the comments! And don’t forget to share this post if you like what you see.
Xx, Kelsey
