I used to have a terrible nail biting habit. For years I struggled to find a way to kick the habit. Eventually after moving to New York City, I kicked the habit because biting your nails after touching the subway is G-R-O-S-S. But the number one thing that has helped me to keep from biting my nails is to take great care of them. That means cutting and filing them weekly and painting them every time they start to chip. At this point, it’s become a nightime ritual that I really enjoy.
Painting my nails so often, means I go through a lot of nail polish. It also means I get bored of colors pretty quickly, so I’m always looking for new shades to keep things interesting. I wanted to share with you guys my favorite spring nail polish colors that I’ve had on rotation for a few weeks now.
They’re all Essie nail polishes because I’ve really found it to be the one brand that a) lasts forever without chipping and b) goes on super smooth. I have a bunch of other polishes, but always end up coming back to Essie.
The first of the spring nail polish colors I’m obsessing over is called Go Ginza and is the prettiest shade of lilac. This color is very on-trend for 2018, and I’m loving the shade on my nails. Bonus – since a bottle of polish is much cheaper than buying clothing in this color, you don’t have to worry about the color going out of style and throwing out clothes that feel “dated.”
Next on my list of spring nail polish colors is a gorgeous springy green. It’s almost like someone took lime green and desaturated it just the right amount. This is one color that will also easily transition into summer. And with a name like Chillato, it’ll be perfect when the weather gets warmer. I can’t wait to put this on my toes and step out in cutoffs and sandals.
The last of my favorite spring nail polish colors is this gorgeous pink shade, Fiji. I’m wearing this shade right now, and have found that it’s just the right amount of pink. It’s not too bright and obnoxious, but it’s more colorful than all of the light pinks that can almost pass as nude. I love the way this color looks on my fingers. Every time I see it, the shade of pink makes me happy.
And it wouldn’t be a nail polish post if I didn’t talk about the WORLD’S BEST TOPCOAT. I had to say that in all caps because I have been obsessed with this stuff since it came out a few years ago. I use the Essie Gel Couture top coat even though I don’t use the gel polishes. When I used both the gel polishes and the gel topcoat, I found the nail polish became too thick and tended to peel off. But when I use this topcoat over regular polish, it’s a game changer. This topcoat goes on fairly thick, but smooths out the polish underneath and gives a nice gel-like look. I always get asked where I got my nails done when I wear this topcoat. Another huge benefit is that it dries super fast! Which is great because ain’t nobody got time to sit around for an hour waiting for their nails to dry.
