I was never big into online shopping until I moved to Amsterdam. In New York, I worked right on fifth avenue, so I could easily hit up Zara or Banana Republic after work. Now I’ve found that it’s sometimes easier and cheaper to place an order with Asos, especially since they’ve made returns so easy. So when I heard about Shein and the ridiculously low prices, I figured it would be worth checking out.
The first thing I will say about Shein shopping is to know what to expect. Don’t think you’re going to get high quality items when you’re paying $12 for a top. I spent quite a bit of time reading reviews, measuring, and looking at the fabrics so I would know what to expect. There are a lot of helpful reviews on the site for each of the products, which often tell you about the sizing, fabric, color, etc. For example, there was a long vest that I really liked, but looking at reviews it came in a much lighter color than the pictures on the website showed.
The second things to realize, is that Shein returns are made in China, and you have to pay your own return shipping. When the item you bought cost $10 it might not even be worth returning. But if you read up on the items you’re purchasing, you might not have to return like me!
I ended up spending about 60 euros since several items were on sale when I purchased. Overall, I’m happy with my Shein shopping experience and will definitely purchase from them again.
Have you ever purchased from Shein? How was your experience?
Xx, Kelsey
LACE PANEL SEE THROUGH PEPLUM BLOUSE
Shein lace panel pepulm blouse ($21) | Banana Republic essential cami | J. Crew Factory toothpick jeans | Jessica Simpson nude pumps
This lace blouse is my favorite item from my Shein purchase. It’s a darling top and perfect for spring and summer. Even though it’s in the Shein reviews, I was a little shocked at just how see-through it is. I threw on a white tank underneath and had no problem. I love the way this top looks super dressy and can be paired with jeans, as I did here, or a high waisted skirt. I ordered a size M, and it fits perfectly.
LONG SLEEVE FLORAL MAXI DRESS
Shein long sleeve floral maxi dress ($26) | Similar Freebird brown boots | Cinco ginger necklace
There are so many cute Shein dresses. And I’m so glad I read the reviews on this one. I usually wear a small or medium, but I ordered this dress in a large after looking at the measurements and seeing what people were saying. I was worried about the waist fitting because the medium had fairly small waist measurements. The large ended up fitting perfectly although there is a little extra room in the top. I’d also like to note that the fabric on this one isn’t particularly high quality, it’s just a cotton blend. While it feels a little cheap, it doesn’t look it, and the pattern is super cute.
HOLLOW OUT CROCHET INSERT EMBROIDERED BLOUSE
Shein embroidered blouse ($18) | Banana Republic essential cami | Similar Gap chinos | H&M straw loafers | Cinco ginger necklace | Henri Bendel Miss Bendel bracelet and petal bracelet
This Shein number probably lived up to my expectations the least. It only comes in one size and is extremely low cut. I was hoping to wear it as a top, and although it does work with a white tank underneath, it is probably better suited as a swimsuit cover-up. It could also potentially work with a cool bralette that’s meant to be shown off.
STRIPED CLEAR WOODEN HANDLE BAG & STRIPED KNOT EAR HEADBANDS
Shein clear wooden handle bag ($18) | Shein striped knot headbands ($5 for both)
Of all the things in my Shein shopping haul, I’m most happy with this bag. It’s super cute, and I can’t wait to carry it this summer. The little striped pouch inside is perfect for hiding what you’re carrying, but it’s also removable if you just want a clear bag. It doesn’t feel cheap at all. The striped headbands were something I threw in my cart because they were so cheap. I figure I can never have too many headbands, especially since they’re ideal for switching up an outfit in a snap. There are a few loose threads on them, but I’m not surprised since they were cheaply manufactured in China.
