If you love fall as much as I do (and I reallllly love fall), then Scotland is THE place to be when the leaves start to change. It’s got thousands of colourful trees, a stunning countryside full of old manors, and cities with architecture that’ll feel like you’ve been transported to Hogwarts.
I recently visited one of my closest friends in Glasgow for a long weekend. It was about as Scottish as a weekend could get, and I loved every minute of it. Jon and I had visited Scotland two years ago in October (read about it in this post), and this time was just as magical.
Of course, being in Scotland in the fall is quite chilly. So I had to make sure to pack accordingly. I also knew I’d be gallivanting around the city with my friend taking lots of photos, so I overpacked for a three day weekend. In the end, I wore most of what I brought and was never particularly cold.
Keep reading for my packing list for Scotland in the fall. Have you ever been?
Xx, Kelsey
PACKING LIST: SCOTLAND IN THE FALL
Sweaters – My packing list for Scotland in the Fall wouldn’t be possible without sweaters. I brought three along because I figured I’d wear one each day. I brought them with the intention of dressing to match the Scottish countryside: one cream cableknit, one olive green cable knit, and a Fair Isle sweater.
Jeans – Probably overkill to bring two pairs for the weekend, but I really wanted both my dark denim and black denim pairs for different outfits. Plus the black pair doubled for a night out.
Going out tops – Scotland is so much different than Amsterdam when it comes to going out. Girls in Scotland are in tiny, tight dresses and heels even if it’s freezing. To compromise between that and the laid-back vibe I’m used to in Amsterdam, I stuck with my black jeans and a mesh top worn over a black bra (linking a similar top since mine was Zara from ages ago).
Boots! – A packing list for Scotland in the fall wouldn’t be complete without boots. I packed my pair of brown boots because they felt both Scottish countryside chic and very on trend. I also brought a black pair of heeled boots for our night out.
Coats – I brought two coats. As an efficient packer, I managed to squeeze one into my carryon and wear the other. I brought my favorite fluffy teddy coat because it’s so cozy. Plus my black J. Crew wool coat (a staple I’ve had for years) for our nights out. If I were going back this year, I would 100% bring this barn coat because it feels SO Scotland.
Plaid Skirt – I couldn’t not bring it. A plaid midi skirt (linking a similar one since mine is from last year) paired with the cream sweater and brown boots was so perfect for our day wandering around Glasgow. And made for some cute pics.
