If you had asked me last year if I would ever wear sneakers with jeans, I would have laughed at you. I am a girly-girl at heart and thought it would take a miracle to get me in sneakers outside of the gym. Fast forward to having lived in Europe for six months, and the one thing I want to do is look more European and not stick out like a sore American thumb. This means sneakers!
Living here in Amsterdam, I’ve come to realize that the one item you can add to your outfit to make you look more European is a pair of cool kicks. The girls here wear them with their velvet flares, with jeans, or even with dresses. And I have to admit it looks great, so I’ve been totally converted.
For my birthday, Jon got me these sweet Nike Air Max 1’s in blush. Just because I’m wearing sneakers, doesn’t mean I can’t still be girly. To go full European, I paired them with some of my favorite J. Crew trousers from a few years ago. I topped the outfit off with a simple white tee and a staple leather jacket to keep the trousers casual.
I have to say this is one of my favorite ways to instantly look more European, and it’s so easy! I’ve now amassed quite a collection of sneakers, and as it’s getting warmer, I’ll be wearing them more and more.
Would you ever wear sneakers to look more European?
Xx, Kelsey
