Whether you’re moving across town or across an ocean (like we just did), a new rental always requires some new apartment purchases. Even if you’re bringing a lot of things with you, there’s always some challenge that requires a little shopping. Perhaps your new apartment requires more lighting than your previous place. Or maybe your dresser no longer suits your space. It could also be that the move has you craving a refresh.
Jon and I just made a big international move to Jersey City from Amsterdam. We didn’t move any furniture back to the States with us, so we’ve been starting from scratch with our new apartment purchases. The shopping list has included everything from a couch to a coffee maker to rugs. We’re still buying things and setting up while we wait for our boxes from Amsterdam to arrive. I can’t wait to do reveals when we finish each room, but that might not be for a while. In the meantime, I figured I’d share some of my favorite new apartment purchases.
Keep reading for some truly exciting home decor items. And let me know in the comments if you have any favorite retailers for home goods! Lord knows we have a long way to go.
Xx, Kelsey
Nightstands – These bedside tables have to be one of my most popular new apartment purchases. They’re surprisingly affordable and nail the post-modern look I was going for.
Bedside lamps – These gold lamps went really well with our post-modern bedside tables and were super affordable.
Faux olive tree – I’ve had my eye on the Pottery Barn version, but couldn’t justify spending $300 on a faux plant. This Target version looks super high quality and adds some nice height to our bedroom.
Espresso machine – Jon and I have been so spoiled with the good coffee in Europe. We knew we wanted to get a really nice espresso machine when we got back so we can keep drinking high-quality americanos and lattes. This machine is a great combination of an automatic (push just one button for a latte) and a traditional espresso machine.
Coffee jar – A little thing, but I love how this jar reseals tightly and stores our coffee beans in a more chic way.
Quilted bed frame – I’ve been so happy with this bed frame, especially for the price. It looks great and is really sturdy.
Leather couch – Having a dog, we really wanted a couch we can wipe clean. We were also ready to invest in a nicer piece that would carry us for many years. We bought this couch online, sight unseen, and absolutely love it.
Coffee table – It took us a while to find a good coffee table. The first one had a faux marble top that was SO fake. This one was a bit more pricey, but the top is real marble. It’s of great quality and quite heavy (in a good way).
Machine-washable rug – I was so excited when we moved back to be able to try this brand of machine-washable rugs. Jolene completely destroyed our last run with all her puppy accidents, so I’m looking forward to a nice rug I can wash if she has an accident. Also great if we accidentally spill red wine!
Couch pillows – I probably spent 30 minutes at Target agonizing over couch pillows. Ended up settling on two of these, which I LOVE. They’re big and have plenty of cushion. Plus the neutral color will go with anything.
Full-length mirror – I couldn’t link this mirror in my carousel, but it’s too good not to list. I actually had this mirror in Amsterdam. It went to one of my good friends, and I purchased a new one when we got here. It’s the most affordable full-length mirror on the market.
