One of the things that used to stress me out the most about travel was figuring out my travel outfit. It can be really difficult to find the right blend of comfy and cool. And with the plethora of pictures out there of celebrities strolling through the airport in the latest trends and sky-high heels, it can feel like you should be trying harder with your travel outfit.
Truth is, no one really cares what you wear while traveling, as long as you’re not in pjs or high heels (both of which look stupid). The most important thing to remember is to dress for comfort and ease. You don’t want to be that person in security trying to take off a difficult pair of shoes, and you don’t want to be uncomfortable on your flight.
Below is the formula that I follow to stay cute while traveling, but to be comfortable above all else.
COMFY PANTS + EASY TEE + SWEATER + SNEAKERS
Comfy pants is probably the most important part of your travel outfit. I like to wear joggers or leggings. Sometimes skinny jeans if I’m bringing a carry-on and want to keep my packing light. It doesn’t matter how chic you look if you’re sitting in your seat fidgeting because your pants aren’t comfortable.
I like to throw on an easy tee for comfort and ability to layer. Airports can be unpredictable. Although to me they’re usually cold, sometimes they can also be sweltering. A tee means that you can handle anything that gets thrown at you.
A good sweater or wrap is essential for travel. They can be used for warmth, can be balled up as a pillow, or can even be thrown over your head to get some sleep. Even if it’s winter, and I’m traveling with a coat, I bring a sweater. Layers are the key to a good travel outfit.
Lastly, I usually wear sneakers. They’re easiest to take on and off for security or long flights. Plus, wearing sneakers saves room in my suitcase. If I’m not planning on bringing sneakers for any of my travel plans, I will usually wear boots or my heaviest pair of shoes. This keeps my suitcase lighter.
Try not to stress to much over your airport outfit. If you follow the above formula you’ll look better than half the people at the airport, and you’ll be comfortable. Change your travel outfit into something chic once you get to your hotel and enjoy your travels!
