It’s a new year! Time to completely change my life! Jk. That would be ridiculous. If you were around this time last year, I talked about how I like to set goals for the year instead of resolutions. Resolutions just sound like something waiting to be broken. For me, making and setting goals (even lofty ones) feels like something I can definitely do.
This year, I’ve got a variety of goals. While it can be really tempting to go crazy and make 100 million goals, I’m trying to keep it fairly simple. Especially, since some of these goals may change as the year goes on.
Read below for my goals for 2019. And let me know some of your goals in the comments. Cheers to 2019!
Xx, Kelsey
PROFESSIONAL GOALS
- Set up an at-home work space – Now that I’m getting into the groove of working as a freelancer, it’s time to set up a dedicated work space at home. No more working (and getting distracted) at the kitchen table.
- Know my worth – Since I’m new to freelancing, it can be hard to know what to charge for my services. I’ve always worked on a yearly salary, so this year I want to know (and stick to) what I’m worth.
BLOGGING GOALS
- Maintain my blogging schedule – I set up a schedule to post three times a week in 2018 – Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. I’ll be taking on more work as a freelancer this year, along with my spin schedule. I want to make sure that I organize my time so I don’t drop off with how much I share to the blog.
- Grow in my content creativity – I get so tired of seeing the same photo over-and-over on Instagram. And unfortunately, I have also fallen into that trap. This year, I aim to grow in my content creativity. To create better and better photos and posts as the year goes on.
FINANCIAL GOALS
- Invest money monthly – Being out of work for six months in 2018 meant that I didn’t save any money during that time. Now that I’m on a regular work schedule, my goal is to invest a set amount every month.
- Set and stick to a budget – Every so often, I tell myself I’m going to set a budget. And I never really do. This year I want to be really clear cut with my finances. Especially since, as a freelancer in the Netherlands, I have to keep track of all of my taxes and pay them back on my own.
- Save for and buy a new computer – I’ve been working from Jon’s personal computer this year, since I left mine in the States when we moved. Now that I’m working from home, one of my goals for 2019 is to save up and buy a nice work computer.
PERSONAL GOALS
- Prioritize my time – I’m tired of wasting time sitting in front of the TV or on my phone. This year I want to be smarter with where I spend my time. I plan to make more conscious decisions to do things that benefit me on a deeper level. And I want to recognize when I am wasting time and choose to do something else.
- Learn about wine – I made plans with a girlfriend to do this last year. When plans started falling through with her, I gave it up completely. This year, I’m going to learn about wine. And I’m not going to make excuses or depend on others to do it.
- Waste less time on Instagram – This is a goal I actually started just before the end of 2018. I had to reset my phone, which stopped my Instagram notifications. I’ve chosen not to turn them back on. I want to use my time on Instagram more wisely – to engage with my followers, share great content, and actually be inspired.
STYLE GOALS
- Push my outfit creativity – I feel like I’ve grown so much in my style over the past year. For 2019, I want to keep growing and keep pushing my limits. Meaning more out-of-the-box and personal looks, and less dressing like everyone else on Instagram.
- Dress like a fashion blogger when I’m not blogging – Sometimes I get into the habit of only dressing like a blogger when I’m going out to shoot or to meet someone. And then I get super lazy with my dressing when I’m not doing those things. This is especially true when I’m working from home. This year, my goal is to dress like a fashion blogger more often when I’m not actually blogging.
FITNESS AND HEALTH GOALS
- Grow a loyal spin following – I just started teaching classes at a spin studio here in Amsterdam. I’m so thrilled to be part of the team. In 2019, I’d like to grow a following – riders who come back week after week because they love my class so much.
- Stop late night snacking during the week – This is a goal that Jon and I have agreed to do together. We both have such a weakness for munching on popcorn at 9:30pm. I’m also looking to cut out alcohol at home during the week.
- Stretch more often – When I was skating, I stretched a lot because we had classes dedicated to it. Now that I’m teaching spin, I’m responsible for my own stretching. So I want to make sure that I take the time to keep my muscles in a good place.
TRAVEL GOALS
- Visit my bucket list places in Europe – We’ve been so lucky to live here in Europe and to be able to travel so much. But the truth is that we don’t know how long we’ll be here. I want to make sure not to wait on bucket list trips, like skiing the alps or visiting a vineyard. One of my fears is that we’ll have to leave Europe and realize we didn’t get to visit all the places we wanted to.
- Explore more of the Netherlands – I’ve seen a lot of the Netherlands, but there’s still so much more to see and learn about. I’d like to make more of an effort to take day trips in this amazing country.
