Guys, it’s been way too long since I’ve written a beauty post. Of course, fashion and travel are my two favorite topics. But I’ve decided to make beauty a bit more of a priority over here on kelseyybarnes.com this year.
If you’ve been following along for a while, you know that I work in the beauty industry. My job is brand manager for the clean skincare brand, Bloomeffects. We launched in Bluemercury stores this past October, but I’ve been with the brand for about a year and a half. This is my first job in skincare, but I’ve always been into beauty. I used to have so much fun creating makeup looks when I was a competitive figure skater.
Since working in skincare, I’ve learned so much about how individual products work. I’ve also learned so much about the benefits of clean skincare, so you’ll see a lot of clean products in my 2020 winter skincare routine.
Of course, while this routine works for me, that doesn’t mean it’s going to work for everyone. If you’re worried about any of these products, it’s always best to speak to a healthcare provider. So far I’ve been very happy with these products. Have you tried any of them?
Xx, Kelsey
MORNING ROUTINE
STEP ONE: Drink a whole bottle of water
Ok, not necessarily a product, but I’ve been making a real effort to drink a full bottle of water first thing in the morning as part of my 2020 winter skincare routine. Water is so important to skin health (and your health overall).
STEP TWO: Bloomeffects Royal Tulip Cleansing Jelly
I can’t not talk about this brand since I worked on the creation of these products. This jelly cleanser is soft and gentle, just what you need first thing in the morning. I massage it into my dry face for a minute before rinsing. It’ll leave your skin feeling so soft and hydrated.
STEP THREE: The Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid 2% + B5
Acid might sound scary, but hyaluronic acid is one of the most important ingredients when it comes to keeping skin hydrated. This is an essential part of my 2020 winter skincare routine because I don’t want my skin to get dry throughout the day.
STEP FOUR: Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream
I bought this eye cream because of it’s brightening properties. You always want to look alive and awake to start the day. Pop it in the fridge for a nice cooling effect.
STEP FIVE: Cetaphil Facial Moisturizer with SPF 15
I’ve been using this moisturizer for years. It’s gentle and fragrance free. Plus it has the bonus of added SPF. If you’re like me I tend to forget SPF, so having it in my moisturizer is key.
STEP 6: Luma Beauty Base Perfecting Priming Moisturizer
Luma is an Australian brand my boss introduced me to. This primer makes my skin bright and makeup application smooth. The best part is it doesn’t make me oily throughout the day.
NIGHT ROUTINE
STEP ONE: Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Botanical Cleansing Oil
This is my favorite product for removing makeup. The oil instantly melts away eye makeup (even waterproof mascara). The smell is so calming that it makes the perfect step for kicking off your nighttime routine.
STEP TWO: Bloomeffects Royal Tulip Cleansing Jelly or Origins Checks & Balances Face Wash
I always wash my face twice, known as double cleansing. This ensures that you don’t just remove your makeup but remove any possible dirt bacteria from the day. I love alternate between these two cleansers depending on my mood. The Origins cleanser foams up really nicely while Bloomeffects is super hydrating.
STEP THREE: The Ordinary Glycolic Acid 7% Toning Solution
This has been my skincare savior for breakouts. I’ve always suffered with acne, but using this glycolic acid toner every night has kept the majority of my breakouts at bay.
STEP FOUR: Kiehl’s Midnight Recovery Eye Cream
I use this eye cream at night for its brightening effects. Trying to get rid of those dark undereyes that plague me no matter how much sleep I get.
STEP FIVE: Bloomeffects Royal Tulip Nectar
If you’ve got dry skin in the winter this is going to be a godsend. Just a little (I’m talking pea-sized amount) goes a long way. I rub it between my fingers to feel the product warm up before massaging it into my skin. It’s worth taking a few minutes to really work it in. Sometimes I’ll jade roll for a few minutes to really help the product seep in.
STEP SIX: Babe Lash Eyelash Serum
I received this product at an event with Ipsy this fall and have been seeing some great results. I use it on both my lash line and my brows. My brows tend to be sparse in the front, and I’ve seen a definite difference since using this nightly.
STEP SEVEN: Multivitamin and Vitamin D
Vitamins are also essential for maintaining your skin. To ensure I’m getting all the vitamins my body needs, I take a multivitamin at night. I don’t take an extra biotin supplement because my nails and hair grow really fast on their own. But it might be worth adding to your routine if you’ve got concerns in that area.
TREATMENTS
The Ordinary AHA 30% + BHA 2% Peeling Solution
Actually haven’t been using this one as much this winter because it’s a pretty strong treatment. If you’re struggling with acne, it can be a good option as a weekly treatment. Be aware it burns at first, so consider spot testing.
I really enjoy this mask because I’m a sucker for any product that warms. This is a good option if you’re looking for some extra hydration
GlamGlow SUPERMUD Clearing Treatment
This mask is great when I get back from traveling and need to clear out my pores.
This is a great spot treatment for breakouts. It dries them up and minimizes the size overnight. Just don’t apply it on any broken skin.
