Something about this year – whether it’s the even numbers or the new century – feels really really good. I definitely don’t have anything to complain about 2019, but I just have a feeling this year is going to be especially great. Now I can’t predict the future, so perhaps the year will turn out totally different than I expect. But on this cold, dreary January day, I’m going to run with this positive feeling.
I recently took a look back at my 2019 goals and was pleasantly surprised to see that I achieved most of them. Last year, I made a point to set goals (not resolutions) that felt like just enough of a stretch, but still attainable. I’ve got zero interest in setting lofty resolutions that I know I’ll never achieve. Telling myself I’m going to practice my French 365 days is just not going to happen.
This year, I’m following the same format for my 2020 goals, since it worked so well. So keep reading if you’re interested in what I’m trying to achieve this year.
And then head on down to the comments and share one of your goals for the year. I love to hear what you are all trying to accomplish.
Xx, Kelsey
PROFESSIONAL GOALS
- Find work/life balance – 2019 was all about proving myself. This year I want to focus on finding balance. I can be a bit of a workaholic and had a lot of trouble “shutting off” last year. At the end of last year I had worn myself out so much that I’ve decided to make this my number one 2020 goal.
- Deliver on the goals I set for work – This year, I worked with my supervisors to write a very clear set of goals for what I’d accomplish this year at work. So I’ll be checking back in with that list regularly to make sure I’m achieving what I set out to do.
BLOGGING GOALS
- Focus on my readers’ needs and questions – Not going to lie, much of the blogging I do is for myself. I LOVE writing and sharing tips on fashion and travel. But I also do so much of it for my readers. In order to grow my blog and to be as helpful as possible, I want to focus on answering your needs first and foremost.
- Deliver consistent content – Consistency with the blog comes back year after year, and it’s no different for my 2020 goals. Life gets insanely busy no matter how hard you try to plan. But I love blogging and want to maintain as much consistency as possible no matter how insane things get.
FINANCIAL GOALS
- Save money monthly – I made it a goal last year to invest monthly. But then I quit my extra job teaching spin and that goal went to the wayside. This year, I’ve already locked down consistent work at a higher rate. Which means more opportunity for me to save some bigger chunks.
- Set a monthly “fun” budget – Last year I made plans to set a budget and stick to it. I got about halfway through the year before I stopped really tracking my spending. In 2020 I’m going to be less of a stickler about an overall budget. Instead I’m going to set aside a “fun” budget each month. this will be for eating out, shopping, coffee, etc. I’m hoping this will help me to prioritize the things I buy and do outside of life expenses.
- Save for one big purchase – While I want to save overall, I also want to save up to buy myself something nice. I’ve been fortunate enough to have some great brand campaigns lately, so I’m spending less on clothes. My plan is to save any of my “fun” budget that doesn’t get spent in order to buy a nice handbag or something luxe.
PERSONAL GOALS
- Learn one new skill – I haven’t decided what this skill will be, but I want to learn at least one new thing this year. I miss studying and learning new things like I did in school.
- Quit wasting my time – I had a fairly similar goal last year, but here’s how this year’s differs: This year I want to quit wasting my time on things that don’t serve the life I’m trying to create. Whether that’s spending too much time on Instagram or saying yes to something at work that makes me unhappy, this year I want to spend my time on things that are going to get me to where I want to be in life.
STYLE GOALS
- Dress like a fashion blogger when I’m not blogging – Bringing this one back from last year because I didn’t totally get there. Working from home makes it really hard to put effort into getting dressed up. But I have so many fun clothes in my closet that I want to make more of an effort to wear them. Even if no one will see them that day.
FITNESS & HEALTH GOALS
- Workout at least three times a week – It was really tempting when writing my 2020 goals to set this one to four or five times a week. But I have to be realistic, life gets in the way of working out sometimes. I do a LOT of travel which makes it very hard to always have a consistent workout schedule. So I’m starting this goal of with three workouts. If I do more, that’s a win! And if I just do three workouts, that’s not a failure at all.
- Maintain my portion control – Portion control is one of the things I struggle with most when it comes to food. I love to eat healthy, whole foods. But I tend to go overboard and eat too much. And too much of a good thing, isn’t so good. In 2020, I want to maintain the healthy portion control I’ve started the year with. And I won’t let any binge nights throw me completely off track.
- Take a dance class – I’ve been missing skating so much lately. So one of my 2020 goals is to take a dance class. I always say I’m going to do it and then I chicken out. This year, I’m going to do it.
TRAVEL GOALS
- Take one trip without posting to Instagram – Not going to lie, I get very excited about new trips and taking exciting new photos. It’s something that fulfils me creatively. But I also recognize that sometimes that can get in the way of enjoying the moment. So this year, I want to take one trip completely post free.
- Experience a hot air balloon ride – I wanted to pick a travel goal that’s easily attainable. All I have to do is book this one. But I figured it’s something I’ve never done and would be really cool to experience in 2020.
- Take more physical/adventure trips – After living in Europe for two years, I’ve done more than enough city trips. While I love experiencing new cities, one of my 2020 goals is to focus on taking trips that are more physical – whether that’s skiing or hiking or kayaking.
