Mixing prints can feel so daunting. When done well, it looks incredibly chic. When done poorly, it can look like an overwhelming mess. But the truth is that mixing prints doesn’t have to be hard. In fact, with a few tips, you may come to realize that mixing prints is actually quite simple. In fact, you might become so confident mixing prints that leopard print or shirting stripes will start to feel like neutrals.
Are you into mixing prints or does it feel like too much to handle? Check out the below tips for mixing prints like a pro and then try them out for yourself.

Find a common color – This is my number one go-to when initially mixing prints. Find a common color, and your look won’t appear to overwhelming. For example, in this post I mixed checks and stripes. The stripes are in a nice brown color (this season’s favorite hue). The checked skirt also has little brown lines running through it. This provides cohesion where there might have been chaos.
Mix proportions – Probably my second favorite tip for mixing prints like a pro is to play with the proportions of the prints. If you’re doing a nice narrow vertical stripe on top, go with a large floral print on bottom. Avoid pairing two large patterns unless you’re a seasoned pro. This is the quickest way to end up looking like patterns were thrown up on you.
Have fun with it – Once you’ve mixed a few prints, you’ll start to get the hang of it. And you’ll gain the confidence to get more creative. High fashion is all about breaking the rules right now, so don’t be afraid to go a little outside the box with your print mixing. If you wear it with confidence, you’ll definitely look good!
