As a blogger, I spend a lot of time researching fashion trends. I’m constantly glued to WhoWhatWear or scrolling through Instagram to see what’s catching on. Fashion is constantly evolving, so there is always something new making its way to the masses.
But coming in contact with so many trends can be overwhelming. Part of my job is to comb through the plethora of trends out there to bring you the best and most wearable options, like I did with the best fall trends in this post. So what do you do when it comes to trends if you’re not a fashion blogger?
Thankfully, if you keep a few key things in mind, you’ll be able to know if a fashion trend works for you. Check out the below tips, and you’ll be making smart trend choices before you know it.
Xx, Kelsey
Does the trend speak to you?
This is the first and most important question to ask yourself. If the trend doesn’t speak to you at all, DON’T wear it. It will only come across as fake. I’m pretty open to most trends. When Birkenstock’s came back a few years ago, though, I just couldn’t make myself feel it. And that’s ok. Better to stick to classics that you love than to try and force a trend to work for you.
Is the trend age-appropriate?
At my age of 26, there are a lot of trends that work for me. But that doesn’t mean they all do. Take a look at fashion influencers who are in a similar age or only slightly younger. If I were to try and wear what an eighteen-year-old in college is wearing, it wouldn’t work. Make sure that the trends you go for feel age-appropriate. If you’re questioning it, it’s probably best to pass on this trend.
Is the trend within your budget?
I follow a lot of high-fashion, which means I see a lot of trends that are far too expensive to be realistic for me. I would love to be wearing Balenciaga right now, but that’s not feasible. Don’t spend too much on a trend, as they’re going to go back out of style before you get your money’s worth. A lot of trends that I see on the runways take time to trickle down to the stores I can afford. Unfortunately, that just means having a little patience and scouring the internet to find the first affordable retailer to jump on the trend.
Do you feel confident wearing the trend?
If you don’t feel confident wearing something, it will totally show. So unless you feel you can rock the trend with confidence, it might be better to go with something more classic. I’m all for pushing fashion boundaries, but you still have to have the confidence to hold your head high while wearing it.
One of my favorite trends (and one of the easiest to pull off) is the western boot trend. I’m wearing one of my favorite pairs in this post. So easily paired with basics like a sweater and jeans. There are a variety of styles and colors to fit every desire this season. I’ve pulled some of my favorites in the below carousel.
