I’m not going to lie, I’ll probably never give up my skinny jeans. The millennial in me loves how they fit and how they look. Plus they go with literally everything. But if you’re like me, you also keep an eye on the latest trends. That means you’ve seen that Gen Z has declared skinny jeans officially OUT. The younger set is forgoing the classic style for looser, 90s inspired denim.
Just because Gen Z decided skinny jeans aren’t cool anymore, doesn’t mean you have to throw them out. I’ll still be wearing mine as a proud millennial. But if you’ve been keeping an eye on street style and the runways, you know that looser jean styles have been gaining popularity for a few years now. If you’d like to look on trend and current, it’s worth looking into a few jean styles that aren’t skinny jeans.
Below are a few jean styles that aren’t skinny jeans but are still incredibly wearable. You won’t find any super baggy 90s styles here (we’ve all been there, done that in the actual 90s). What you will find are looser, trendier styles that are still flattering and easy to wear. Keep reading to find your new jeans style. Mom Jeans – This jean style has been gaining serious popularity in the past year. Mom jeans have a higher waist and a looser fit through the waist, butt, and thigh – meaning they’re insanely comfortable. The tapered leg makes them easier to pair with a range of shoes. I personally love them with white sneakers or a pair of mules.
70’s Inspired Jeans – This is one that will probably make my mom roll her eyes, but that’s how trends work isn’t it? 70’s inspired wide legs and flares are currently trending. Look for a high waist and pair them with heeled boots or sandals for legs that are a mile long.
Straight Leg Jeans – Probably the most classic jeans style on this list, straight leg jeans are nothing new. Defined by their straight up and down fit, these jeans pair well with sneakers, sandals or ankle boots.
Cropped Straight Leg Jeans – As the weather warms up, an easy jeans style to wear that isn’t skinny jeans is a cropped straight leg. These look super cute with either sandals or sneakers. The little bit of ankle makes them very flattering and easy to style.
Boyfriend Jeans – Another style that has been around for ages, this is probably as baggy as my jeans will get. The borrowed-from-the-boys look pairs best with ankle boots or sneakers. I like to add a feminine blouse to keep it from getting to masculine.
