Since we’ve spent most of the last year locked down, I haven’t been buying into as many trends. I’d rather invest in classic items than quick trendy pieces that might be out of style by the time we go outside again. That being said, there are a few key trends that feel really wearable and will have a longer lifespan. One of those is the rubber boots trend.
This trend was very timely for me, as I just donated my old Hunter boots (EU), which had seen better days. The rubber boot trend spiked and meant I could purchase a new pair of slightly trendier rubber boots for a great price.
Here are some tips for making the rubber boots trend work for you and below is one of my favorite looks featuring the boots.
Pick a modern silhouette
This year’s rubber boots feature chunky soles and range in color from white to olive to black. The trendiest style is knee-high like this Zara pair (EU), but there are also several rubber ankle boots that are just as on-trend. I’ve linked several pairs that fit this year’s styles above.
Pair them with something feminine
The rubber boots trend looks especially good when juxtaposed with feminine pieces. I love wearing mine with a girly dress or with a great wrap coat. Keeping details fitted and feminine keeps the boots from feeling too utilitarian.
Pay attention to the length of your clothes
Whether you’re pairing your boots with a midi dress or with a great coat, pay attention to the length. These boots look best when you can see some leg above the top. The 2021 rubber boot is a bit looser at the top, which can make your outfit look heavy if there’s no visible leg.
