Last weekend the temps here in Amsterdam dropped. We had some unexpectedly warm weather just a few weeks before, so the change felt drastic. Of course, it is November now. We are steadily on our way to winter, and that means it’s time to start getting out your cold weather outfits.
While usually sweaters and jeans are my die hard winter outfit, this year I’m actually so excited about midi dresses. Usually colder temperatures do not equal dresses. However, the way midi dresses are being styled this season allows you to be both warm and trendy. The best of both worlds!
If you’re nervous about how to wear a midi dress for fall/winter, I’m here to assuage your fears. All you need are a few key things:
A midi dress – Pick one in a nice fall/winter color palette. I particularly love this wrap option from Chicwish. A dark floral is the ultimate way to add interest to your look.
Slouchy knee high boots – This is the key to how to wear a midi dress in fall/winter. Knee high boots will keep your feet and ankles warm. The slouchy style is also so on trend for fall. Go with a fun white pair like these ones from Mango, or go with a classic black pair.
A warm coat – Teddy and faux fur coats are back this season and honestly, even better than last year. There are so many options to choose from. You’ll want to choose a longer one to keep the proportions right with your midi dress. Pick one in a color that plays well off the pattern in your dress, like this one also from Chicwish.
Tights! – While the three other items in this look work for both functionality and style, tights are purely functional. They’re so necessary when the temps start to get really cold. And the best part is that no one can see them. They’ll keep your thighs from freezing and allow you to wear your chic midi dress outfit in total comfort.
Are you considering wearing a midi dress this fall or winter? I can tell you that you’ll be seeing a lot more outfits like this in the future!
Xx, Kelsey
