I usually consider myself pretty good at putting outfits together. Usually where I struggle is putting too many trends together. But for some reason, I found it a bit hard to figure out how to wear a leather midi skirt. After throwing half my closet around the room and getting second opinions from a friend, I figured it out.
The key thing to know when you’re deciding how to wear a leather midi skirt is that the fabric makes the skirt look much more polished. In a world where we are no longer going to work, I was surprised when this leather midi skirt (EU) felt more formal than I expected. Here are a few things to keep in mind when styling:
- Button downs will make it look the most polished/work appropriate. Not necessarily a bad thing, but something to keep in mind. For running around Amsterdam, this felt too dressy. When things return to normal, I think I’ll love this combo.
- A chunky sweater is the perfect topper. After trying on half my closet, I realized a chunky knit (EU) pairs best with a leather midi skirt. It keeps it from looking too formal while staying warm. Pro tip: employ the french tuck to keep it from looking frumpy.
- Be smart about your shoe choice. In my head this skirt was going to go perfectly with chunky boots or sneakers. But it didn’t look right. I recommend knee-high boots (one of my fave ways to style a midi) or a nude block heel like I’m wearing in this post.
- Have fun with your accessories. Overall, this look is pretty simple, so play with your accessories. A chain belt is very on trend for 2020. Or throw on a fun necklace or interesting bag.
It may be slightly intimidating to try out new trends. Now that you’ve got the above tips for how to wear a leather midi skirt, you’ll be able to rock it in total style. And if you do, send me a DM or tag me on Instagram. I love to see how you guys put together looks!
