While I’ve been dreaming about spring a lot lately, the truth is that winter isn’t going anywhere for quite some time. If you’re like me, by this time of year your sweater collection has been getting a lot of wear. And while you can’t go wrong with the classic sweater + skinny jeans combo, you might be itching for something to spice it up.
Enter the cardigan. A few years ago I wouldn’t have dreamed of wearing a cardigan. I think I would have actually been purging my closet of my old J. Crew Jackie cardigans. But as always, fashion is cyclical. The cardigan is back.
The key to making a trend work the second time around is to focus on details that make it feel current. A few tips for how to wear a cardigan without looking like a grandma:
Button it all the way up – Buttoning all the buttons on your cardigan is very on trend right now. Wear it more like a pullover sweater that happens to have buttons, as I did for this post.
Leave a few buttons undone – The key to leaving a few buttons undone is what you’re wearing underneath. Either wear nothing underneath and show a little shoulder skin or wear a matching knit bra a la Katie Holmes. Promise no one will mistake you for a grandma.
Wear it backward – This is a styling tip I’ve picked up from Sézane. Their website is one of my favorite ways to get french girl styling tips. One look that popped up over and over again? Wearing your cardigan with the buttons down the back.
Incorporate these current styling tips, and no one will mistake you for a grandma in your cardigan. Instead you’ll be very chic and very 2020.
Xx, Kelsey
