One of my favorite things to do is people watch for street style in the various cities I’ve visited or lived in. NYC is definitely no exception. As the home to high fashion, there is always some fabulous outfit right around the corner. In fact, the freedom to dress however you like is one of my favorite things about NYC. When I lived in Amsterdam, fashion was so much more about dressing European and fitting in.
That being said, there’s still a big portion of NYC that dresses alike. Ever heard about how everyone in NYC wears all black? It’s not untrue! Women in their 20’s and 30’s in the city do have a tendancy to settle into an unspoken uniform. This summer, there’s one fashion trend in NYC that majorly sticks out – the oversized button-down.
I’ve been keeping my eyes peeled on summer weekends in the city, and this fashion trend in NYC is hard to miss. Every other girl is wearing an oversized button-down. While I’m normally not one to buy into the trends that everyone is wearing, I will say that I love the classic roots of the button-down trend. The buttton-down has been a fashion item for decades and really isn’t going anywhere.
It’s how you style this fashion trend iin NYC that makes a difference. Most women are wearing their button-down open over a crop top. Pair it with either a pair of mom jeans or shorts to be right on trend. But that’s not the only way to wear it. Personally, I love to tie mine in the front to give myself a little waist. The oversized-button down also pairs very well with a pair of trousers or linen pants. In fact, you can even wear it open or tied over a simple midi dress.
