WHAT. A. WEEK. This week has been a whirlwind of uncertainty. While I’m happy to finally see the weekend, in all honesty I know this uncertainty isn’t going to end anytime soon. While everyone I know here in Amsterdam is safe and mostly unaffected by COVID-19, there is an underlying sense of tension to life at the moment.
On Thursday morning, I woke up to Trumps’ travel ban from the EU to the US. It came as a bit of a shock and has really turned things upside down. At work, we have had to pivot – canceling our Amsterdam event. My poor younger brother was forced to end his study abroad in Budapest months early. Things just feel very unsettled right now.
Jon and I were going to go to Brugge for my birthday at the end of March. But we aren’t sure anymore whether to do. It’s only a few hours away, and our plans were to drive. But I’m also afraid that we will be shamed for traveling at all. Even if we are driving.
Thankfully we haven’t booked flights for any upcoming travel, but we aren’t sure when it will be safe to do so again. Already the trip to see my brother in Budapest is off the table.
While I am sad about things like travel and work, I understand the concerns about travel and the spread of the disease. While there are young healthy people stocking up on everything at the grocery store, there are elderly people who are afraid to go to the grocery because they are at so much risk of dying from COVID-19.
If you’ve got the ability, please reach out to elderly neighbors and ask if you can go to the grocery for them. And if you’re stocking up, please donate your stores when you realize you no longer need them.
I don’t want to completely deviate from my normal Friday Favorites posting, but I will be including some of the resources I found helpful regarding COVID-19 in the links below.
I’m sad to see these things happening in the world, and hope that it all calms down soon. Please stay calm and stay informed.
Xx, Kelsey
FRIDAY FAVORITES: ROUND 3, WEEK 9
This episode of the Joe Rogan podcast was incredibly informative about coronavirus. Jon is a big fan of Joe Rogan. I don’t usually watch, but this one was really interesting and taught me a lot.
This podcast by the New York Times is another great resource. Jon always tells me about them, but I finally decided to listen this week.
On a non-corona note, I’m currently obsessing over this dress and this dress. Sensing a sleeve trend for spring and can’t wait to wear one myself.
I can’t travel to Paris right now, but I can dream about it with this adorable tee.
It’s not sandal season yet, but I am OBSESSED with this orange pair. Not normally a color I’d buy, but these are totally calling my name.
Vinyl trenches are going to be so big for spring. This, this and this are so cute. I’m 100% getting one of them.
While you’re stuck inside, check out this show that Jon and I just finished the first season of. Or watch this movie.
