Jon and I took our first trip since the move this past weekend, and we went to visit one of my best friends, Jamie, in Scotland. It was both Jon and my first time in Scotland and my first time visiting the UK. We had a wonderful time exploring Glasgow and Edinburgh with Jamie serving as our local guide. Although we did get rained on quite a lot (the UK, I know), we had such a fabulous time. Not only was it so fun travel to a new place to see the sites, but also to spend some much needed quality time with friends.
Hope you enjoy a little peek into our fall weekend in Scotland! Xx.
GLASGOW SITE-SEEING
Princess Square Shopping Center: This shopping center has the cutest Art Nouveau peacock on the front, and the entire street is full of great stores. Zara’s plethora of houndstooth jackets and dresses definitely caught my eye…
George Square: The square, named after King George III, is the main civic center of Glasgow. It hosts a multitude of events, although we were just there to admire the beautiful buildings
University of Glasgow: If you want to feel like you just stepped into a Harry Potter movie, this is the place! We went just before sundown and had fun admiring the changing leaves and taking lots of pictures
Rouken Glen Park: We spent Sunday walking around this park enjoying the foliage and checking out the waterfalls. Watch out because it gets muddy with all that Scottish rain
GLASGOW FOOD + DRINK
The Horseshoe: A real Scottish pub experience complete with the longest continuous bar in Europe. Grab a pint of Tennents to fit in with the locals
The Piper: If you’re feeling brave, try the haggis (I’ll let you look up what’s in it). I stuck to the fish & chips, which were delicious
The Boathouse at Rouken Glen: We stopped here for a delicious soy latte and scone while exploring the park
Topolabamba: An odd choice for a Scottish trip, but Jamie knows how much I love (and miss!) Mexican food. Nothing like sharing memories over chips and margs
EDINBURGH SITE-SEEING
Edinburgh Castle: The castle sits way up on the hill in Edinburgh. Stunning views of the city and lots of history. Plus a whiskey tasting if that’s your thing!
Royal Mile: We walked from the castle down this beautiful cobblestone street lined with historic tenements and shops selling tartan scarves
Calton Hill: Walk up this beautiful hill to see views of Old Town on one side and the water on the other. Sunset is a magnificent time to see the city below begin to light up
