Fall officially feels like it has arrived in the Netherlands, and I am here for it. I won’t bore you to death with the long list of things I love about fall. But what I will say is that fall fashion is one of my absolute favorites.
In particular, fall means that it’s time to start pulling jackets and coats out of the closet. One of the best jackets for fall, especially as the weather slowly transitions from summer, is the boxy blazer.
This season, the oversized fit of the menswear inspired blazer takes over for more fitted styles of past seasons. Look for details like big shoulders, loose fits, and oversized buttons. With this trend, just think bigger is better.
Styling the boxy blazer can be a little intimidating. Top fashion influencers are wearing the trend over loose-fitting trousers. Others are throwing it on over a maxi or slip dress. But if the boxy blazer trend feels a little intimidating, it doesn’t have to be.
I personally styled my blazer with a few simple items to keep it from feeling overwhelming or too trendy to be accessible. My base layer is a pair of high-waisted black skinny jeans and a white tank. I wore my blazer buttoned up to maintain it’s square shape and allow it to take center stage in my outfit.
I accessorized my blazer with my new staple heeled black boots and a super trendy velvet and pearl headband. Paired with a sleek ponytail, the headband adds that little bit of pizzazz to an otherwise plain outfit.
I was a little bit nervous about the blazer making me appear too big. But pairing it with sleek skinny jeans and leg lengthening boots played really nicely with the proportions. In fact, I love the pairing so much, it’s inspired me to take a few more risks with my oversized blazer and test it out over fall floral dresses like in this post.
I want to know, would you dip your toe into the boxy blazer trend?
Xx, Kelsey
