Being active has always been an important part of my life. I spent more than twenty years as a competitive figure skater, taking two years off from college to train full-time. After my skating career ended, I got certified to teach yoga. And in 2019, I spent most of the year as a spin instructor here in Amsterdam.
So when this whole lockdown hit, I really had to rethink my workouts. Just prior to lockdown in Amsterdam, I was working out 4-5 times a week. Most of my workouts were spin or pilates classes through Classpass. And while I’ve never been a stranger to at home workouts, I was really disappointed to disrupt a class schedule that had become so regular.
We’ve been in lockdown in Amsterdam for nine weeks now (I know I can barely believe it myself). During that time I’ve managed to keep up a good workout schedule for the most part. The main reason for this is the number of free at home workouts that have come available. For the first time I’m able to access my favorite classes from home for free.
If you’re looking to change up your at home workouts during quarantine, keep reading for all my favorites.

Corepower Yoga – This is where I was trained as a yoga instructor, and is my absolute favorite studio. They’re only in the US right now, so I was over the moon to find out I could do their at home workouts during quarantine on Youtube. My favorite? Yoga Sculpt – a series of yoga poses incorporating weights (or cans of soup!) and body weight.
Alo Yoga – Alo has a ton of classes on Youtube. I use these when I’m looking to do a 30 minute vinyasa flow or needing a good stretch.
Pure Barre – When we lived in NYC I always went to Pure Barre on my Classpass subscription. It’s my favorite for lean, tight muscles without any heavy cardio. There are a selection of 30 and 45 minute classes on their Facebook.
Body by Simone – Getting cardio in when you hate running is really hard during quarantine. Dance cardio workouts are a great way to quickly burn calories and get your heart rate up. Plus they’re fun! Just search for Body by Simone in Youtube.
Vibe x MCB – Melissa was a bridesmaid in a friend’s wedding several years ago. She was a dancer for the Dallas Maverick’s and Dallas Stars. She’s teaching her dance classes via Vimeo and keeps all the links in her Instagram bio. Her classes are best for those looking for a true dance class.
PopSugar Fitness – The PopSugar Youtube channel has a wide array of different workouts with the best trainers across the US. I love going to their channel when I have no idea what I want to do. I just pick and video that looks fun and give it a try.
Sweat – This is the only paid workout on this list. I bought the Kayla Itsines workouts several years ago when they were in ebook form. Now Kayla has an awesome app. These workouts aren’t for the faint of heart, but Kayla promises dramatic changes to your body. When I want to do my own at home workout during quarantine, I always model it off her classes. For example:
Repeat each circuit for 7 minutes:
Circuit 1:
- 15 squats
- 24 alternating lunges
- 100 jump rope
- 40 bicycle situps
Circuit 2:
- 30 step ups on a chair
- 10 burpees
- 15 wide leg squats
- 40 mountain climbers
Repeat those 7 minute sets 2 times for 28 minutes of hardddd work.
