One of the most popular islands in Greece, Mykonos is known for its spectacular beaches and wild parties. The island attracts the international jet-setting crowd looking for gorgeous blue waters and great food. It can be a bit overwhelming when confronted with the endless list of beach clubs and stellar restaurants, which is why I’ve created this list of the 5 must do things in Mykonos.
There are a few things you should know before heading to Mykonos:
Mykonos is expensive and things are spread out. Be prepared to take taxis that run anywhere from €30-€60 every time you want to go somewhere. Ask your hotel for their taxi contact, as it’s nearly impossible to get a taxi last minute. I recommend setting a time for your departure and calling the taxi an hour beforehand.
Mykonos is a party island and not nearly as romantic as Santorini. The mindset here reminds me a lot of Ibiza. It’s certainly possible to do the island as a romantic trip, but I’d recommend gathering a group of friends and heading to the island with the intention of sharing some big dinners and dancing.
If you’re looking to do any of these five must do things in Mykonos, I recommend making reservations in advance. During the high season, it’s nearly impossible to walk in anywhere last minute, given the popularity of the island. If you’re traveling in the shoulder season (May or October) you might have more luck.
Keep the above in mind when planning your trip to Mykonos, and you’ll have a fabulous time. The water is so insanely blue and the food is to die for. Definitely add Mykonos to your list, as it’s a can’t miss destination in Greece.

Must Do Things in Mykonos
Sunset at Scorpios – This is my favorite thing to do in Mykonos by far. Scorpios is the ultimate sunset dinner spot. The times I’ve been there, we always book the sunset beach, although I’ve heard the seated dinner is also amazing. The food and service are incredible – the chef is the same as nearby Soho Roc House. And the vibe is like nothing else. Scorpios has live music and DJ sets which make sunset unforgettable. It’s likely you’ll run into someone famous or at least uber-rich while there. Make sure to whip out your most apocalyptic chic fits for the occasion.
Nikolas Taverna – For a more low key must do thing in Mykonos, check out Nikolas Taverna for a traditional Greek lunch or dinner on the beach. Located around the corner from Scorpios, this spot has a very different vibe. We were served by Nikolas himself and ate fish his dad had caught in his little fishing boat an hour before. We went for both a sunset dinner and a lunch since we loved this place so much. Don’t miss the fried cheese, spicy feta dip, and Greek salad.
Principote Beach Club – Located on the northern side of the island, be prepared to take a taxi to this beach club. It’s located in the most gorgeous cove, but there’s nothing else nearby. Principote will cost you a pretty penny (beach beds cost €100 and often have a minimum spend), but the service is impeccable. The beach is one of the few white sand beaches on the island and features warm, shallow water, perfect for wading in with a glass of rosé in hand. Lunch was delicious (although it’ll run you about €200 per person), and the servers brought us cold towels to help cool off from the hot afternoon sun.
Rent a Boat through Click&Boat – I’ve used this rental service in Antibes and booked us a boat for the last day of our trip. Unfortunately, it was canceled due to extreme winds, a common problem in the islands. Make sure to get the weather insurance, so you get a full refund if that happens. We had booked a full day which included a trip to the islands of Delos and Renia. We were all super bummed that the boat got canceled, so please book one and do it for us!
Explore Little Venice – A list of must do things in Mykonos wouldn’t be complete without Little Venice. The narrow white and blue streets are usually what you see in photos of Mykonos and are unlike anything else. Do some shopping for jewelry with the traditional evil eye to keep evil at bay. Some of my favorite places for food or a sunset drink include:
- Kastros – This narrow spot is all over instagram
- Kalita – Elevated greek food. Get the deconstructed spinach pie or one of the salads
- Negrita – Party spot perfect for a sunset spritz (has a minimum, so be prepared to spend)
