After so many years of midi and maxi skirts, I didn’t think I’d already be writing a post about how mini skirts are back. Yet here we are. The super-short skirt has been making appearances on runways and trickling down to street style and Instagram. There’s a good chance you’ve already seen this trend on your favorite style influencer.
One of my favorite things to preach is that you don’t have to follow trends to be stylish. But if a trend is calling to you, I say go for it. Make it your own and wear what feels comfortable. You’ll look far more stylish than if you try to make something work that isn’t YOU.
So mini skirts are back, and some of them are very short or very low cut. In keeping with the theme of wearing what works for you, I wanted to share how I styled a mini skirt for fall. Still very on-trend, but also very ME.
First up was finding the right mini skirt. I passed by this Scotch & Soda skirt (EU) while shopping at De Bijenkorf, and went back to buy it a few days later. The plaid print and gold details just scream fall. I also love that it’s a mini skirt, but not a micro mini. I still feel like I can move in it without flashing someone.
I originally had intentions of pairing the mini skirt with the matching vest, but the vest didn’t fit me right. So I took home the skirt and paired it with a few classics that I love – a beige sweater (EU), knee-high boots, and my favorite tote (EU). In order to keep this look from going to full-on prep, I went with a western-style boot instead of a riding boot. The western boot has been trending for a while and keeps this look from feeling too 2000s. While mini skirts are back, it’s important not to style them in a way that feels dated.
When the weather cools down further, the great thing is that mini skirts can be paired with tights and coats, so you’ll get a lot of use out of them this season. I expect you’ll be seeing mine more than once!
Are you happy that mini skirts are back? Is this a trend you’ll be buying into? Let me know in the comments!
